Belgium Travel: Bruges at Christmas
We didn't want to go to Bruges for it's medieval alleyways and architecture or its quaint cobbled streets.
We wanted to go to Bruges because of the film In Bruges. We love that film, so seeing as it's just a few hours away I decided to surprise my boyfriend NewMan for his birthday. He did well not to guess until just before we picked up our hire car.
NewMan then put on an Irish accent for about 80% of the time we were there in his grinning attempts to be Colin Farrell. I laughed everytime he did, and not because I was being polite, but because his accent is that bad and that cute.
Of course, once there we saw Bruges was much more than a film set, albeit a scenic one at that. We found good restaurants, a wonderfully comfortable hotel and more cosiness than one city should really have within its walls. Also here is another list of the best restaurants in Bruges. If you're planning on visiting Bruges with children, here are some great things to do in Bruges with kids. And if you want to travel further afield towards the French border you can find many other cute towns and cities, like Mons and here is where you find out all the best things to do in Mons.
But back to Bruges. Is it wrong that I still think the film is one of the best things about this city?
Anyway, here are my photos.
