MusicMonday: You & I by Local Natives

The Local Natives album landed in my iTunes at exactly the right time. At that point where I'd read this story, my story, thirty-something times and analysed every word to the point where I'd begun to question the sense and spelling of even the simplest and smallest words. I needed something new and reliably good to take me past this point and into the big unknown. Local Natives, your beautiful album Hummingbird has served me well.

Because somehow, I did push through the blurred eyes, aching back and formatting issues to pull something together that isn't perfect, but it's finished. Any flaws that this ebook has are ones I need to exist, for I must learn from them and must gain something from their slipping through the cracks of my surprisingly (to myself!) rigorous and multi-layered editing process.

You can read the See the Amalfi Coast as an ebook - and hunt for the flaws! - with a free copy from one of the links on this page, or buy a very cheap version for your Kindle on Amazon here. All profits from the sales on Amazon are going to Joanna Bryant Benefit Trust. My sweet friend Gesa from Bedouine Writer (a beautiful travelogue - do check it out) offered the best review I've been honoured to receive yet; she called it "beautiful, witty and smart," - three reasons why I went to sleep with a smile on my face last night and perhaps three reasons why you should download it for a rainy afternoon or a train journey sometime soon. P.S. If you don't have a Kindle you can just get the Kindle app for most smartphones (for free) and then read it on that.

One of the reasons See the Amalfi Coast came to life so quickly and so efficiently is NewMan; he made me realise there was a lot to be gained from just going for it and self-publishing one short story, rather than wait and have so much more rest on the full collection. I personally was feeling over-protective and I wanted to wait until all my little babies were ready before I published anything. But self-publishing isn't an exact science - you need to learn in order to do it the right way. And what's the best way to learn? To do... So I did.

So this song is for him. Him and me. You and I. And these my last collection of photos from Marrakech are for you dear readers. Enjoy the sunshine, colours and this crazy cat I'm going to miss more than I should when we leave Morocco later this week (although of course, being a cat, she'll forget us in seconds).
