Moments of Happiness: Breakfasts in Morocco
Mornings were my favourite time of day in Morocco.
The sun woke us - bold and brassy - bursting through our windows. After a few squints and stretches we welcomed it and asked it to stay all day.
Sometimes it did, other times it was less loyal. On the days it stayed we would sit outside and eat a range of Moroccan treats for breakfast. My favourite were the square, thick roti style msemen, which I covered in raspberry jam. I drank black tea or the sweet Moroccan mint tea and we were spoilt by drinking juice freshly squeezed from the oranges growing in the garden of our beautiful villa. Hungry eyes would watch on jealously and occasionally a bird would serenade us from close by. Depending on our workloads, digesting would take place at our desks or in the garden with the animals or a good book for company. Thank you sun. Thank you Morocco. Thank you mornings that ease you into the day...
