Let's take a long walk: Cape Byron Lighthouse
Having gone on a number of walks during my travels, I am starting a new series of posts about these gentle strolls I take as that's predominantly what they are.
So first up Byron Bay, a.k.a. where all Oz's beautiful people go to sunbathe, swim and surf. And how do they stay so beautiful?
By hiking up to Cape Byron Lighthouse every morning, that's how.
This walk takes you along the coast, up a hill, through a rainforest and the summit delivers delightful views of both Byron Bay and Tallows beaches as well as the bright white lighthouse which acts as a gatekeeper for the most easterly point on Australia's mainland.
As well as politely nodding to fellow walkers who passed me by I also cursed those who perkily jogged past me as all the toned arms and legs I'd seen previously on the beach started to make sense. I even found myself enjoying the exercise and the literal uphill struggles though the views and the warm sun and blue skies, which kept me company most of the way were a welcome reward at the top.
The lighthouse itself is also an impressive sight and has been lovingly looked after. I enjoyed photographing it showing off his near perfect paintwork and charming century old features.
Many flock to Byron Bay to join or clash with the beautiful ones but not all do this walk, which takes roughly around two hours, there and back from the centre of town with additional stops for photographs, extra breaths or to write your name on a step in the jungle.
