In photos: Summer boat rides in Amsterdam

We got to cruise around the canals of Amsterdam in a boat twice this year. A kind friend of a friend offered to do the deed once when I had some girlfriends staying and another time when we were with our neighbours. It's my favourite way to see Amsterdam. Not only does it offer you a different point of view, but you feel part of something that although you see it everywhere in Amsterdam, it's not that easily accessible; the water.

Although August was a bit of a wash-out it's been a good summer here in Amsterdam. So good, I'm sad it's over. I always try to be enthusiastic about autumn. but for some reason this year it feels harder than usual...

Maybe it's because I know all this - all the fun that these photos show - is over for another year.

I think I'm going to have to work on a brand new autumn wishlist for things to do in Amsterdam now the seasons are changing.
