Moments of Happiness in the South of France

Our time in the south of France wasn't all unpredictable difficulties. It was also a happy time, if a little overshadowed by our best laid plans being dug up under our feet despite our best metaphorical foundation building and brick laying attempts.

There were beers along the Canal du Midi... There were many late night BBQs just the four of us and there was a beautiful French cat that NewMan spent so many hours with I got a little jealous...There was a visit or two to the beach... There was a trip to the Sunday market in Narbonne which involved more drinking of wine than shopping... There were an excitable few hours watching the  Sécurité Civil fly over to deal with a thankfully not too nearby forest fire... There was a meal in one of our favourite restaurants...There was a lovely family meal one Friday night where we spoke mostly French all night long and at the same lovely house I met a beautiful giddy Irish Setter puppy and a graceful English Setter dog. There was the discovery of an old book shop two storeys tall and floor to ceiling rows of books (where I found some 1970s French crochet magazines - swoon). There were mini road trips and a longer adventure to Barcelona... There was brief day-dreaming about living in beautiful gite surrounded by vineyards, there was a night in with ginormous pizzas and Priscilla Queen of the Desert and there was also too much fun in French supermarkets buying espadrilles and bikinis.

And on more occasions than I give due credit, there were precious moments where I basked in beauty of la belle France... Of course, there was also lots of quality time with good friends; now that is never, ever, ever wasted time. Disclosure: This post was brought to you by Cheapflights.co.uk. You can use them to find Narbonne, Montpellier and Perpignan flights, all of which are perfect places to arrive for exploring the south of France . Thanks for supporting the folks who support As the Bird flies...
