Best Kept Secret: Uff Charity Shops in Finland
Had I known there was a second hands clothes store - a wonderful, fabulous charity shop, no less - around the corner from my hotel in Helsinki, I would have saved some room in my suitcase, or maybe in my snowboard bag. But this would have brought with it a new risk; that of NewMan opening up one of said luggage receptacles and questioning why I deemed a 1980s red polka dot silk shirt complete with shoulder pads as suitable attire for the Arctic Circle.
So, that's why I didn't buy anything from this well-organised, reasonably priced, fantastic cause-following second hand clothes store with the brilliant name Uff. They have six shops in Helsinki, two in Tampere, one in Turku and one in Lahti. Profits from their clothes recycling efforts support development projects in Africa and India while also significantly reducing clothes and fabric waste in Finland.
Here are my photos and here's their website in English so you can seek them out should you ever be in one of these fine Finnish cities. I know I will.
