A photo from: Gandhi Statue in Amsterdam

Just around the corner from where I live is an area of Amsterdam known as Rivierenbuurt.

A few days ago I went walking through it recently in search of Amsterdam School architecture (which I found a lot of) and golden scenes of autumn's changing colours, which you'll see from above I was perhaps a little early for. Instead I stumbled across a striking bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

I don't know why it's there - in the middle of a long thing tree-lined public space, but it made me stop, look and think. It didn't take me long to realise, perhaps, that's reason enough for it to be there.
