Wednesday's Words: It's Magical

The Bay by Metronomy will always be an important song to me. It's the reason I now travel. Sort of.

I've alluded to it a few times before on this blog but as natural as it feels now to be travelling long-term (albeit slowly!), it was a very foreign concept to me this time last year. My boyfriend, NewMan, was actually the instigator, the fire starter, the trouble maker. The genius.

The song is about convincing someone to leave, to travel, to go somewhere else for their own good, though ironically I think it's referring to a bay on the English southern coast, but if song lyrics aren't open to interpretation, what is?

One day when I was finding the concept of change and travel too difficult to comprehend back in NewMan's small but perfectly formed London flat, he played this song to me and said "This is about us,". He didn't say "Come on, Birdie, you need to do this," or "We need to go! Let's go travel the world," he left the lyrics with me and as always, left the decision up to me to make.

The lyrics are clear and the most romantic of these is the line I've picked for Wednesday's Words. The photo is from the beach on Koh Lanta National Park, one of the most untouched and unspoilt beaches I've had the pleasure of walking along. For six weeks in Thailand the beaches did indeed go on and on and it was truly magical.
