Special request...

I'll cut to the chase.

I have been shortlisted for a competition.

I'm one of ten travel bloggers who are up for a trip to Barcelona courtesy of EasyJet. It's part of a number of events Easyjet are organising to mark the recent opening of Southend Airport and Easyjet's inaugural flight from Southend to Barcelona. But alas, ten cannot go and in the amended words of the Spice Girls, ten must become five.

So here's where you come in.

If you'd like to see the Bird in Barcelona then please tweet @easyJet with my Twitter name @bushbirdie and the hashtag #eJblogger

Or I've made it super dooper easy, simply cut and paste the following into Twitter:

"I'm voting for @bushbirdie in the @easyJet #eJblogger trip to Barcelona"

Retweets aren't counted as they can't be tracked and voting starts at 10am (GMT) on 15th March 2012 and lasts for 48 hours.

UPDATED: 17th March 2012 - the vote has closed. THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO VOTED. YOU'RE ALL ACES.

I promise to limit my nagging during this time and to say thank you I've created this special (slightly tongue in cheek) Barcelona playlist that you can listen to while tweeting, just click on the play button.

UPDATED Friday 16th March 2012 - Thank you so very much to everyone who has tweeted their support. I've been overwhelmed and incredibly touched to the point where it really wouldn't matter if I went to Barcelona or not! The other bloggers have huge Twitter and blog followings but I like a challenge so if you haven't yet tweeted please do and if you'd like to share the request with your followers I'll do a special "thank you" dance each and every time.

P.S. It's Friday! Have a great day... Bird x

Furthermore I'll gladly accept dares or challenges (within reason) in exchange for tweets. (My Mum's already suggested I dress up as a Spanish senorita in exchange for tweets but I think Southend Essex Girl is more achievable - see below - but I'm open to any worthy challenge)

So, why me?

As you know I'm very open on this blog about being an amateur amateur photographer and in short I'd like to go on this trip to push my photography to the next level. Barcelona has to be one of the most photographed cities in the world but I'd like to see if I can photograph it differently. My pitch was about my desire to practise photography in a new city up close and personal. I want to focus in on Barcelona with a shallow depth of field. How does the city feel, taste, smell, look when I zoom in? You can read my pitch and all the others here. There are some great bloggers up there so it would be great to check in at Southend with some of them. I promise to write honestly about all aspects of the trip, from how much a cup of pre-take off coffee costs in Southend Airport to how good Barcelona really is as a city break destination.

Needless to say, I would love to be one of the five who head to Barcelona, not only because it's a city I've never been to and so to get snap happy there would be a true exploration of both my photography and travel skills, but because I also think it would be cool that the first official "blogger trip" I go on starts and ends in Essex. Those of you who are familiar with my accent (which is actually not Essex, more Sawf Landan) and my genuine love for fake fur and white shoes will appreciate the irony.

I'd be grateful for every single one of your tweets.

  1. Oh, if I twittered I'd tweet for you for sure! (slightly hollow promise I know, but I mean it). Good luck, it sounds like a lot of fun.

  2. Ah bless you! I know that you would as you're one of my favourite commenters! Happy weekend x

Show me some love in comment form and please, if you'd like, leave your name and/or a URL and email so I can reply and send some love your way...

Thank you for commenting! Bird x
