Book Review: Veronika Decides To Die by Paulo Coelho

I find that there are two schools of thought when it comes to Paulo Coelho. Those who love him, and those who pretend to. Here's my review of arguably my favourite Paulo Coelho book, Veronika Decides to Die. I must also add that his collection of short stories, Like The Flowing River, is a really calming, insightful and inspiring read.

What's it all about? Set in Ljubljana, Slovenia, after overdosing on sleeping tablets, 24 year old Veronika wakes up in a mental institution where a combination of factors alter and affect her mental state, as well as the reader's perception of depression and mental illness.

What's so good about it? If you really do love Coelho and his simple yet often liberal prose, you will like how he employs it to explore the concepts of sanity and insanity, while also giving life to a young woman who has everything and nothing to live for.

Who, me? Again if you have already fallen for Coelho you should make this the next one you read; though if you're not already convinced by his writing (but pretend you are) then this may change your opinion.
